Dating During Quarantine

It may seem impossible to date right now. Physical distance does not mean emotional distance, and this can actually be a great opportunity for you to meet someone new or continue getting to know someone! Here are 5 of our best tips for dating while social distancing :)

Go on virtual dates.

This may seem obvious, but use Skype, Facetime, or Zoom to go on a quick and easy virtual date! We have seen so much success matchmaking couples this way, so go on a happy hour/coffee date, watch a movie, or do a craft together - all great ways to spend a bit of quality time together!

Communicate frequently.

If you are trying to cultivate a new relationship, make sure you communicate regularly. Send a quick message when something in your day reminds you of them. “Good morning” and “good night” texts are also a thoughtful way to remind someone that you are thinking of them.

Quality over quantity.

While regular communication is great, don’t feel like you need to communicate with them constantly. It is important to focus on quality communication, rather than overwhelming them! Focus on actively scheduling dates (virtual or in person) to keep things moving forward!

Find shared experiences.

There are plenty of ways to have shared experiences without simultaneously doing an activity over video chat. Choose a book you think you would both enjoy, read it separately and then chat about it when you talk. Send each other song recommendations or create a shared playlist. Find shared ways to bridge the physical distance and you will both learn new things at the same time!

Focus on the future.

Of course you and your date will probably talk about the crazy world we are living in right now, but that shouldn’t dominate your conversations. Talk about what your lives are like outside of quarantine and share your goals and dreams for the future. This will help you get to know each other outside of the context of our current situation and will help foster a relationship that can grow beyond it.
